Food Thy Medicine

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."

Health Mandala

"Variety is the spice of life."

In my lifetime the majority of the food I have eaten has been Vegetarian. Eating mainly meat was by far the norm when I was growing up, as I got older I chose to give it up. That was except for fish which due to various research I'd read advised we all need meat to survive and that the oils in fish were especially important. I ate fish every few months, and gave thanks to the fish spirit for its sacrifice during my food blessings.

As part of my interest in exploring alternative lifestyles one that I found most natural was the Raw Food path. This occurred during the time in which I was studying Permaculture and Natural building techniques. Living on the land and certainly in warmer climates the idea of eating entirely raw came naturally. During my time at Eco Forest in Spain I had a chance to experience this for myself and it was truly divine.

At the heart of the Raw Food system is the awareness of enzymes. This was something new to me, though after hearing that cooking food actually also destroyed the food to a certain extent, this made a lot of sense. The middle ground on this topic would be steaming food.

For a couple of years I tried variations of amounts of raw food and cook food, and in the end found a balanced medium (Eating 50% raw and 50% cooked food). I've always been interested in the middle path, and I find without it life becomes to extreme. Certainly investigating raw food assisted me in becoming more conscious of the food I was eating and increasing the variety of my meals.

This is essentially where this path led me, that truly having a balanced eating pattern and trying different kinds of recipes helps to keep the organs of our body in shape as its getting many more sources of vitamins and minerals. There are of course lots more exotic foods from around the world and new super foods now on the market.

I would say this is the foundation of being healthy to me, and mixed with a balanced amount of exercise we can all live far more harmonious life styles, every one of course being entitled to their own preferences. However the proof is in the pudding as the saying goes, and that pudding could easily be entirely raw and delicious.

When I catch a cold or when I feel signs of one in my body, my natural way to deal with this has now become increasing the amounts of food like: Ginger, Garlic, Turmeric & Chillies. * In addition I recently gave up eating meat completely, that and all daily produce. Though recently its all been Goat produce which I found easier on my stomach, but that too has passed.

Nature has powerful remedies for every health condition, it is my perspective that according to the law of opposite there is a cure for every poison in nature, equal and opposite reaction. By far the most important of these today is Cannabis Oil.

Blessings on the Food
